Cadance and Shining Armor Cosplay by WhiteHeather Cadance and Shining Armor Cosplay by WhiteHeather
This was our attempt at an "epic" pose.

Everything on the Cadance and Shining Armor costumes that is sewn was made by me. My dress is silk velvet and has 200 feathers on the sleeves. Shining Armor has a velvet cloak, cotton twill surcote, and linen pants. We commissioned the shield, but painted it ourselves. He is also wearing a full chainmail tunic.

If you see any other pictures of us floating around online, I would love to see them! There were a ton of pictures taken of us this weekend, so hopefully more will crop up!

Using the bell sleeves for Cadance's wings was absolute brilliance.

Awesome work!

Hey Whiteheather! Were making this tabbard for our friend as an emergency Shining armour to go with my princess cadence and my friends Chrysalis. I had a question. Did you put side panels on the Surcote to give it that skirting effect or it it just from the slit in the middle and the belt?

It's 4 panels total, 2 front and 2 back.  The side seams aren't straight up and down though, they flair out.  I basically followed the instructions on this page: www.profounddecisions.co.uk/em… I just made it longer, and obviously all one color.

It's always interesting to see how people will cosplay ponies since they are so different from us (You can't put on a costume and be 100% accurate like you can with a stormtrooper or Darth Vader). I think that these are done really nicely, and I think you hit the nail on the head for having attributes of the characters while still being human. Nicely done. You should go to a Renaissance fair and see if anyone recognizes the characters :P

That's one of the things I really really love about pony cosplay. There's so much more room for creativity since you aren't just copying a costume from a movie, game, etc exactly as it is. It's always fun to see what people will do with the characters and it's never the same thing twice!

I, personally, am also not a huge fan of having actual horns, wings, and ears for humanized pony cosplay. That's why we decided to go for the forehead jewels as "horns" and my big bell sleeves to be wings. I'm glad someone else appreciates those little things!

I think it would be fun to go to some sort of Ren Fest or SCA event like this, though maybe without the wigs to make it a little more period accurate. My hair is pretty close to the same color as the blonde part of the wig anyway, so it would still look very similar, just no pink and purple.

Haha, I'll admit that my first thought was that this was a bit weird. But then, I've never really experienced cosplay in the slightest, so that might explain it.

You guys look like you're having a ton of fun, though, and if so, that's all that counts! Your outfits are gorgeous and I suppose I could see the draw toward acting for an entire day. The chainmail is darned awesome and those feathers are a very nice touch. So while I couldn't really appreciate it as much as the others, thanks for sharing nonetheless!

I've always loved dressing up, though this is the first time I've done "real" cosplay. It is a lot of fun to dress up as someone else in something super fancy for a while. Also, I've always been interested in historical costuming which is why we went that route with these. Take off the oddly colored wigs and we're pretty much ready for an event with the SCA or a Ren Faire!

It would have been more fun if the shoot had been earlier in the day when it was cloudy and cool, but it was fun overall! Next year I will NOT be making my costume out of silk velvet :P

Thanks! I'm hoping to find some pictures where we're in a more neutral pose to show the clothes off better, but at least this one shows the sleeves well! I actually just found a picture of us on Tumblr, so if they'll let me post it up here I'll definitely do that :)
