Rarity plushie by WhiteHeather Rarity plushie by WhiteHeather
Presenting my most recent plushie, and my favorite pony, Rarity from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic! I am very excited with how she turned out!

She is made from minky with appliqued satin eyes. I used two shades of minky for her mane to better approximate the look of her gradient hair in the show. Her mane and tail contain absolutely no wires!

This lovely lady will be going to live with the fabulous :iconrenegadecow: and was part of a trade with him. I'll need to make a new one for myself soon though.

are you taking commissions? And if you're not, are you selling her?

I am not taking commissions at this time and she is already sold. I may be making some things to sell over the Summer though, so keep an eye on my page :)

Sell these on ebay. Seriously, I saw a princess celestia plushie go today for over $1,800! People there are going CRAZY for them. I wish I could make them!

I don't sell on ebay anymore. It's a gamble and 2 out of the three auctions I posted there sold for less than I'd charge for a comission.

I love how you made her hair different shades according to the show :D. I would soooo love one of your Rarity plushes...

Rarity is certainly best Pony!

There are lots of little details about this that make it wonderful! The two-toned mane and tail really bring it all together, I think! :)

Thank you :) I'm not sure why more people don't do a two toned mane honestly. I really love the way it looks!

This is fantastic! I like how you made her tail and mane look great from every angle. The show makes it seem geometrically impossible, but you've pulled it off gracefully :)

Curious - what colour minky did you use for the lighter shade of purple?

Thank you :) Her mane was a pretty big challenge, but I'm very happy with how it turned out!

It's violet from Minky Boutique. The violet from them is different than the violet from Fabric Depot, so if you are looking to buy some order it from them specifically. I think that Minky Boutique carries some fabric that isn't shannon brand, hence some of the color differences.

The Fabric Depot violet is a much warmer shade of purple. The violet from Minky Boutique is very close to jewel from Fabric Depot, but just a bit darker. I used jewel for the purple in my Sweetie Belle's mane. You can hardly see the difference in pictures though. Jewel would probably be a decent alternative if you were placing an order from Fabric Depot and wanted to get all your fabric in one place.

As I continue to see more and more of these incredibly well-made plushies, I feel the need to purchase one of these. Alas, I need to buy a bunch of other things first :( ... Regardless, very nice!

And again, beautiful. The way you did her mane is a great idea, it looks very nice. I'm amazed you're able to get the curls looking so good without wire, and her tail even floats!

Thanks! I was so hoping to actually do a gradient on the lighter purple, but dyeing it wasn't really an option and the fabric marker didn't seem permanent enough so in the end I just went with this, but I think it turned out nicely.

I'm so happy that I got her to work so well without wire. I really don't like using wire if I can help it. There are some things you just have to use it fore, but for Rarity a little batting and tacking things in place works just fine :) The top part of her mane was even staying up pretty well without tacking it to the side of her face, but I decided to tack it down anyway just to make sure it stayed in place.

She's looking awesome! :)

I notice you've changed the back legs to use a gore for shape. How hard is that to set in? I'm still trying to decide if it's worth using that technique in my princess pattern or if it'll be too difficult to explain the construction technique. ;)

Honestly it's pretty challenging. If you want to keep your pattern beginner friendly I'd probably keep it how you do the back legs on the smaller ponies. If you don't mind making the princess pattern a little more challenging though, then go for it :) I really like the way it looks, but it's not the easiest technique in the world to do correctly! I remember Hystree saying once that that was one of her least favorite parts of sewing a pony together. I wouldn't go that far for me, but it is really easy to mess it up!

Setting gores has always been a giant pain for me to do in clothing... so it surprised me to see legs like this in commercial stuffed toys some times. I'm thinking I may try it once for my own education, but I probably won't subject other people to the technique unless I can find some techniques to make it easier. ;)

Woo! Best pony is looking fabulous as always! Love the way you did the lashes as well, first time I have seen that method on a pony. Very fitting for such a Rarity.

Yeah i do all my lashes this way. I think it's the best looking method I can do since I don't have an embroidery machine and I love the 3D effect.

Is it true most fan-made plushies are full of bees?

Only if they are plushies of Bumblesweet.

Here, let me field that one. I can't speak for WhiteHeather's work, but having handled plushies from several other artists, the answer seems to be "yes."

The specialized My Little PonBee stuffing used by fan artists can contain anywhere from thirty-five to seventy percent real bumblebees, to ensure an extra degree of soft cuddliness. A plushie using this stuffing provides a soothing, almost life-like motion effect, bringing our beloved ponies another half step closer to reality.

In addition, by using renewable, biodegradable materials like bees, this filling ensures that each toy is as environmentally friendly as possible.

I hope that you've found this to be a satisfactory answer to your question.

Yeah I'm SO excited for this trade! I need to finish up the second surprise part of it for him before we mail things off, but I can hardly wait to see the automoton in person.

And thanks! Rarity's lashes are pretty annoying to do since she has so many compared to everyone else and has the eyeshadow layer under them, but I am really happy with how they look :)
